Challenging Church Compassion \u2013 13: Chased Away \u201cJW\u201d<\/h2>\n

This Challenging Church Compassion post is about the second church in which JW was involved. If you haven\u2019t read about the previous church JW told us about, please do so before reading this one: Challenging Church Compassion \u2013 12: Chased Away \u201cJW\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cThe other is a church which I attended in my youth, Our Mother of Good Counsel in Homer Glen, Illinois.\u00a0 Each year they hold a “Santa’s breakfast” which serves sausages, bacon, pancakes, eggs, etc. and a Church carnival which serves up the traditional carnival fare including turkey legs, fried foods, etc.<\/p>\n

I heard you talk on goveganradio.com and thought I should let you know about these churches. Thank you for promoting the Truth of God’s views toward animals. God bless you and your ministry.\u201d JW<\/p>\n

We also asked JW if these things were still going on at this church, and JW responded, \u201cOur Mother of Good Counsel (take note of the name) just recently had their Santa\u2019s breakfast and their church carnival takes place every August.\u00a0 Both are \u201ctraditions” as well.\u201d JW<\/p>\n

This is the same kind of hardness of heart that we find in most churches, and because they consider their indifference to the suffering of animals as being a \u201ctradition,\u201d we don\u2019t believe that they even consider changing.<\/p>\n

This is the same kind of attitude that Jesus encountered in the Temple and among the Temple leaders. Note what he said in Matthew 23:15 \u2013<\/p>\n

15 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you travel about on sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves.\u201d

We strongly believe that the only way churches are going to change is by our challenging church compassion as they perceive it in their hardness of heart, and show them how much they are lacking, and pray that they will once again become the loving, compassionate, and peacemaking children of God that Jesus called us all to be.<\/p>\n
