We keep publishing these institutionalized animal cruelty articles because they show, as we believe, that there can never be humane treatment of exploited animals. Cruelty runs rampant. Therefore, each and every one us has an obligation to take a stand against all forms of animal cruelty, beginning with what we put on our plates.<\/p>\n

On 8 December 2010, the Steiner Packing Co, slaughterhouse in Otego, New York was inspected by the USDA\u2019s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), and was cited for not properly supplying water for animals being held in pens. The report stated:<\/p>\n

Citation:<\/strong> HATS III: Water and Feed Availability 1000hrs. Performed ante mortem inspection, observed pens 6 and 7 for water availability that previously held beef animals that had been slaughtered between 0730hrs and 1000hrs. Accessible water [was] not available; water [was] in [a] frozen state. Checked all other pens with livestock water accessible. This document serves as written notification that your failure to comply with regulatory requirements could result in additional regulatory or administrative action.<\/p>\n

Regulation:<\/strong> 313.2(e) Animals shall have access to water in all holding pens and, if held longer than 24 hours, access to feed. There shall be sufficient room in the holding pen for animals held overnight to lie down.<\/p>\n

It seems obvious that facilities like Steiner Packing Co. are controlled more by the love of money, and not by compassion for the animals. They also seem to be living examples of what we are told in Proverbs 12:10.<\/p>\n
