IA: NE Iowa turkey hunter hurt in hunting accident

An unidentified turkey hunter was hurt in a hunting accident Thursday morning near Westgate.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office said a male hunter had been out turkey hunting and sustained a gunshot to his foot about 6:45 a.m.

No names are being released at this time while the sheriff’s office and the Iowa Deportment Natural Resources (DNR) conduct their investigation.

The victim was treated at Sumner Hospital and then later transferred to Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo.
