NY: Plattsburgh hunter ticketed for killing of mother bear and cubs

October 3, 2018

From Howard Thomson,

A Plattsburgh hunter is facing charges after DEC officers say he killed a mother bear and her two cubs in Clinton County.

Department of Environmental Conservation officers say they were tipped off by a concerned citizen in late September about the case.

When questioned by officers, the DEC says the suspect admitted to taking the black bears, saying he shot the bears over a bait pile. Officers seized the bears' remains from a garage.

The hunter, who was not identified, was charged with three counts of taking over the limit for bear, three counts of illegally taking bear, failing to tag bears as required, and taking bear over a pre-established bait pile.

Officers also recovered evidence from the shooting scene.
