NY: Hunting Guide Accused of Violating Probation

January 2, 2019

A well-known north country hunting guide is accused of violating the terms of his federal probation.

Bill Saiff III pleaded guilty in 2017 to guiding waterfowl hunts over baited ponds, which led to the killing of protected birds, a violation of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. Saiff was fined, and as part of his punishment, he was banned from hunting activities until January 1st. Officials say Saiff didn't honor that probationary period.

Saiff is once again accused of being involved in bird bating and guided hunting activities.

Saiff's lawyer, David Antonucci, tells 7News, “We don't believe his actions violated the terms of his probation.”

For now, a judge has placed Saiff under a 7 p.m. To 7 a.m. curfew.

The case is due back in court in February.
