Disease-Free Living Through Fitness and Nutrition

We began this Advice section as a means of assisting our visitors in answering many of their health and diet questions, and in encouraging them to take a pro-active part in their own health.  We believe that the information contained herein is true, but are not presenting it as the only solution to a problem.  We, personally, have found that a vegan diet has helped our own health, and simply wish to share with others the things we have found.   Each of us must make our own decisions, for it's our own body.  If you have a health problem, see your own physician.

Postscript re: Raw Food Recipes for Cancer Patients

Dear M.L.:

Regarding our telephone consultation, I wanted to follow up with a few more things.

I believe you said your husband has stomach and colon cancer? And you asked me to recommend some good Raw Food Recipe books?

I gather you already know to avoid foods that contain white flour, sugar, salt and oil as well as refined foods such as cookies, cakes, breads, crackers, and foods containing syrups, sugars, corn syrups, etc.

However, when you asked about Raw Food Recipe books I started searching my mind and although I have a large collection, I cannot in good conscience recommend any of them for people with serious health problems.

To refresh my memory as to their contents, I just took out a stack of them and went through the recipes.

The problem with raw food recipe books is the recipes usually contain too much protein and oil in the form of seeds, nuts, avocados, olive oil, etc., plus too much sugar in the form of high-density fruits such as bananas and dates.

Additionally, people who consume a primary fruitarian diet for more than several years usually end up with severe health problems including loss of teeth and hair, clarity of thought and other serious problems.

A number of years ago (about 24 to be exact) I came close to death due to a life-threatening disease (For more details see the following URL:
At the time I was a Fitness Instructor and Health Educator at a major metropolitan hospital and thought I was doing everything "right."

It took several years and a close bout with death before I was able to completely re-educate myself and rebuild my health through fasting and nutrition.

The Natural Hygiene (Science of Life) Diet is the best we have come across through all our travels and exposure to what constitutes optimal health, and we've learned that when one is seriously ill it takes even more strict measures than usual because the immune system is so compromised.

I checked out the web site for the book I recommended "Simply Good Recipes and More" by the Center for Chiropractic and Conservative Therapy and it was no longer listed. It has been replaced and updated by "The Health Promoting Cookbook," by Alan Goldhamer, D.C

My spouse and I recently went to Dr. Goldhamer's TrueNorth Health facility in Santa Rosa, California, to check out the latest information on a health-promoting diet and can highly recommend his facility for optimal health education and care.
