CREATURED
CONNECTION
poetry
Sisters of the Earth
I sit between my two old friends
And sense their frailty.
Upright, still giving shade
They stand at the water's edge
Having survived another storm.
Their leaves are shriveled now
Like the skin of an old woman.
Their bark has open wounds,
The stumps of their severed limbs
Revealing bone.
Like old women, they are a valued presence.
Life on the ebb,
Still rooted in the earth,
Taking one day at a time.
