SUNFLOWERS
by Sally Belenardo
From "Jacob's Garden"
The end of the garden
belonged to sunflowers,
sedulously drawing
the suns power inward,
and rising above him,
who bound them to poles
and brought water in pails,
set gratefully down.
The end of the summer
belonged to sunflowers,
languidly casting
downward their haloed heads -
the crucifiction of a season,
offering gathered flocks
the feast of equinox.
Getting a taste of God's creation as it should be!
