Vegan Pastors and Churches
A Compassion Internet Christian Church Ministry From

Unitarian Universalist Congregation
Andover, Massachusetts

Animal welfare and rights are important to the Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Andover. The Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Andover (UUCiA) became the first religious congregation to endorse the Massachusetts-based Citizens for Farm Animal Protection ballot measure on November 12, 2015.

The congregation also voted (on January 10, 2016) to change the bylaws of the Unitarian Universalist Association (Article II, Principles and Purposes, Section c-2.1 Principles, Line 12) to be more animal-friendly. Specifically, we passed a motion to change the First Principle from affirming and promoting “the inherent worth and dignity of every person” to “the inherent worth and dignity of every being”. (This bylaw change, proposed by more than 15 UU congregations, will be up for debate and vote at the June 2017 UU General Assembly.)

The congregation’s minister, Rev. Lara Hoke, is a vegan and serves on the Board of the Unitarian Universalist Animal Ministry as its Secretary.

Our atmosphere is friendly to the animal concerns. Congregational potlucks are usually vegetarian, often with several vegan options.
