ENCOURAGE PROSECUTION OF FARMED ANIMAL CRUELTY
Three residents of Corning, California have been charged with felony animal cruelty after officials found approximately 100 cows, horses, goats and pigs on their property dead, apparently of starvation. The dead animals were found alongside dozens more severely emaciated but still living animals on March 2 of this year. The Tehama County District Attorney has announced that he has filed 3 felony animal cruelty charges each against the property’s owner, Paul Keller, and the alleged caretakers of the animals, David and Peggy Guice.
This case is particularly important because it could set a precedent for the humane treatment of farmed animals in the state. While we have seen several starvation cases in California successfully prosecuted as felonies, there have been few, if any, felony convictions for the starvation of farmed animals in the state.
WHAT YOU CAN DO:
Contact the Tehama County District Attorney and thank him for pursuing felony animal cruelty charges against David and Peggy Guice and Paul Keller. Encourage him to fully prosecute the individuals responsible for such massive animal suffering, and ask him to seek, upon conviction, psychological counseling and a permanent ban on their keeping any animals:
