1) H.R. 503 - The House version of the American Horse Slaughter Prevention
Act comes up for a vote on September 7, 2006.
Please contact your representative in the House of Representatives and urge him
or her to vote for H.R. 503, the House version of The American Horse Slaughter
Prevention Act without amendments.
It is imperative that you emphasize that this legislation is voted on without amendments. The special interest/pro-horse-slaughter contingent in Congress, including Bob Goodlatte (R-VA), who heads the House Committee on Agriculture and Joe Barton (R-TX), who heads the House Committee on Energy & Commerce, are trying, along with others, to attach hostile amendments to the bill.
If that happens, the bill will lose its intent and integrity...so please
spread the word and ask that everyone phone their respective Congressional reps
and follow up with a fax before September 7th). That is the most effective way
to have your message heard. Email is also fine. Just please be sure to act now.
The full House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on H.R. 503 on Thursday, September 7, 2006 at 10 AM. Please contact your family, friends and everyone you know across the US to contact their representatives prior to 9/7. This is a unique opportunity to finally end the cruel and un-American practice of horse slaughter which may not occur again for a very long time.
We are also urging all proponents of the bill not to accept compromises. In
this case, no bill is definitely better than a bad bill and we are counting on
the sponsors of H.R. 503 to remain committed to passing it without amendments
and not to sell the horses short.
You Can Make A Difference! It might seem overwhelming to think that just one
person could have an impact on Congress, but the fact is that we all have just
one Congressman or Congresswoman in the House of Representatives. Consequently,
at this stage with respect to this particular bill, we all just have one
representative to urge to vote for H.R. 503 without amendments. If everyone
takes the time to contact his or her House Rep, we will have a very good chance
of getting this legislation passed as written.
