Horseback Riding and Animal Rights:
Can They Ever Be in Harmony?
Comments by: Bill Samuel - 18 Jan 2006

Erin,

Thanks for your message.

I grew up in a vegetarian family, and for a number of years we had a few goats (who have very strong and individual personalities, and probably the best sense of humor of any "farm" animals). For much shorter periods of time, we had a cow, some chickens and a donkey (who loved to play with the kid goats). We never killed an animal. We enjoyed their company, and did not feel we were exploiting them in drinking milk and eating eggs.

This is nothing like typical commercial farming.
