Horseback Riding and Animal Rights:
Can They Ever Be in Harmony?
Comments by: Candy - 18 Jan 2006

I don't ride horses, but I've considered taking it up, as a way of being with horses, much like having a pet.

Without knowing a lot about it, I'm inclined to think it's not inherently cruel to ride a horse, but it depends on how it's done. Like with pets, this is an area where I think rigorous humane standards is the answer.

I'd hate to see contact between humans and horses disappear. It seems like that would be bad for both the horses, as Michele suggests, and for humans.
