Horseback Riding and Animal Rights:
Can They Ever Be in Harmony?
Comments by: Sarah - 19 Jan 2006

It is possible to ride horses without bits. I had a look on the web and found the UK-based site http://www.bitlessequitation.co.uk/ and they seem to be particularly concerned about welfare issues. They also sell bridles made of nylon (though they sell leather ones as well).
