Heifer Project International - Inhumanity in the Name of Humanity

You're right. I think it's a rather curious program. The catalog is full color, glossy, with really excellent photography--rather expensive to produce. Why would a charitable organization send an animal (that has to be fed) to poverty-stricken areas of the world, especially since those areas mentioned sustain agriculture very well. It's just very strange.

Seed is so much cheaper and the long-range benefits of agricultural instruction--well, never mind.  It's just a very strange program. Whatever its motive or its outcome, it's macabre to see the joyful face of a little boy hugging a baby goat or lamb that he is supposed to raise and slaughter.  Something is wrong with the picture.
