Hi, Betty........
Last October I took the opportunity to offer a large vegetarian feast to our church. Since October 4th is St. Francis day and since St. Francis is one of the few saints that all denominations like, I suggested we do an Animal blessing the last Sunday of September, since the fourth was on the following Thursday.
Since I am a minister (though not working in our church as one) and since I am vegetarian, the head Pastor asked me to do the sermon and then he, the head pastor and his assistant and myself all blessed the pets that the congregational members brought to church that morning. After the service, the whole church was treated to a very large and very nice vegetarian feast that my wife and son had put together with the help of some of the ladies at the church.... I handed out CVA booklets to everyone...
People brought their cameras and took pictures of their pets being blessed... and asked for vegetarian recipes. I have put on animal blessings at other churches in the past, but this one was really big and I think it had an impact.
Take care,
Mike
