Nuns are making darts used for throwing at animals during festivals in Spain, animal rights campaigners charged this week. Catholic vets and lay people opposed to the torture of animals during feast day celebrations accused the Catholic Church of conniving in atrocities. In an open letter to Pope John Paul ll they appealed to the Vatican to help put an end "to this dreadful treatment of God's creatures by Christian people."
