From the Finchley Times dated March 17, 1977:
The Rev. John Wainwright, of All Saints' Church, Child's Hill, has
been urging his parishioners to eat less meat.
In the latest issue of his church's newsletter Mr. Wainwright pointed
out that a farmer needed eight pounds of grain to produce a pound of
beef.
"Because we in the West eat so much meat the remaining three quarters
of the world population have only half the food supply to live on," he
reminded his congregation.
Mr. Wainwright added that there were many alternatives to meat dishes
and to prove his point he listed the ingredients of two of his favourite
vegetarian meals - vegetable stew and pasta with Mediterranean sauce.
