Feedback from the students of Worthington Kilbourne High School, Columbus, Ohio - September 28, 2006

Student - 29

Summary:

  • Today in our modern society, animals are treated as objects rather than creatures. Farming processes include the keeping of animals in small consolidated areas where their movement is restricted. The injection of growth hormones is also used to produce more products rapidly.
  • Bengal tiger population has fallen from 100,000 a century ago to about 2,000 today. The original 8 subspecies have been reduced to five.
  • A major threat to the tigers survival today is the Chinese market for tiger body parts. They believe that the tiger is a powerful animal, and if you ingest a tiger body part, its power would be transferred to the corresponding part in your body.

Opinion:

Anthony Marr has made me more aware of the devastation that our environment is facing. He has opened my eyes to the animal cruelty. He has made me want to take a stand, spreading the awareness of the possible extinction of such magnificent creatures. I am going to do this by talking to my friends about it and possibly seeing if I can go on an excursion with Anthony Marr.

I agree with his reasoning for being vegan. Being vegan would mean that his source of nutrition would contain no products derived from animals, especially those kept from living a natural life. I myself could never be Vegan because I like eggs and cheese too much. I am considering becoming a vegetarian. "More people becoming vegetarian would go a long way towards solving the worlds hunger problems. The amount of grains it takes to produce 100 lb of beef feeds only a dozen meat eaters for a day, but those same resources could feed hundreds of vegetarians."
