Government Reports confirm whistleblower Statement – Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute (LRRI) EXTERMINATED 300 monkeys and 100 beagles during 2011 - posted January 18, 2012
In July of 2011 SAEN was contacted by a whistleblower connected to the Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute. This whistleblower revealed that this lab had recently lost a multi-million dollar experimentation contact that involved the use of several species of animals. The lab decided to simply exterminate unneeded animals, instead of finding them homes in Sanctuaries. The whistleblower stated that 30 primates were to be killed per day, for 10 days and afterwards the slaughter would move to the beagle colony. Overall, this process was to kill 300 monkeys and at least 100 beagles. Recently obtained government reports now document the facts of this situation.
USDA animal inventories (see below) for the Lovelace Laboratory demonstrate that in March of 2011 this facility had 951 primates and 293 dogs. By September these numbers had declined to 646 primates and 183 dogs. In a period of less than 6 months 305 monkeys and 110 dogs had disappeared from LRRI. This corresponds exactly to the aforementioned whistleblower statement.
Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute killed 400 animals simply because
they didn’t want the expense of feeding and caring for them. They refused to
even respond to contacts from activists whose goal was nothing more than to put
these animals into sanctuaries.
