Dr. Gibbens,

Please LEVY a MAXIMUM FINE against University of Washington, Seattle, for their blatant disregard of the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) when their negligence allowed multiple ferrets to be improperly inflicted with potentially severe head injuries. Their behavior must NOT be tolerated and MUST be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

Research Watchdog Files Complaint Against UW

From, February 4, 2020

A national research watchdog group filed a complaint Wednesday with the United States Department of Agriculture about the University of Washington's laboratory treatment of research ferrets. Ohio-based Stop Animal Exploitation Now is worried that an experiment involving inflicting head injuries was performed in violation of the Animal Welfare Act because the UW staff did not follow their own protocol.

The UW Health Sciences administration said that the protocol noncompliance had occurred and further work on this project requires critical changes that must be approved by the attending veterinarian and the UW Institutional Animal Care and use Committee.
