Message:
Salk Institute and Scripps Research Institute both exploit primates! At Scripps, innocent Rhesus monkeys are purposely forced to become addicted to methamphetamine and alcohol and then once they are hooked, the drugs are taken away, the monkeys go through withdrawl, then they are killed and their brains are studied. Down the street at Salk, they cut open monkeys heads while they are still alive and manipulate their brain while they are forced to perform tasks. Cruel and unnecessary junk science at work right here in your back yard.

Message:
In June 0f 2011, the USDA issued an Official Warning against Princeton University for violating the Animal Welfare Act (AWA). Princeton University is one of the worst offenders of the Animal Welfare Act out of all the Ivy League Schools. Detailed federal reports and leaked photographs of surgical experimentation paint a grim picture of what occurs inside the Princeton Labs. Here are some of the violations that the USDA & APHIS inspectors noticed:
- Primates were deprived of water for more than 24 hours
- 1 in 3 primates are missing toes or fingers
- Laboratory personnel failed
to notify a veterinarian when a primate exhibited clinical signs of pain after
surgery
- Pregnant marmoset did not receive veterinary care when in distress
to give birth
- Two primates used in painful experimentation without the use
of anesthesia or pain killers
- Poor condition of primates' research
environment
- Incomplete and inconsistent recordkeeping
- Presence of
multiple expired medications
According to a whistleblower employed at the lab, "the most brazen professor is Asif A. Ghazanfar. He constantly refuses to cooperate with animal care staff, refuses to do things in compliance with regulations and cooperate with required inspections.

Directions ot Event
Take I-71 to downtown Cleveland - merge with I-90 - take Carnegie Avenue exit - follow Carnegie Avenue East - go right on E. 100th Street - public parking is available on E. 100th Street
Message:
Much of the research performed at facilities similar to the Cleveland Clinic is unnecessarily cruel, senselessly repetitive, scientifically invalid and a complete waste of taxpayer money. Enforcement of federal animal welfare laws traditionally has been so poor as to render them almost meaningless in terms of offering animals real protection. The search for a realistic, sensible approach that spares animal lives, without destroying legitimate and responsible research, has become a great national cause. Stand with us and tell the Cleveland Clinic that their use of animals is a waste of time and lives!

Altria / Philip Morris
6601 West Broad
Street, Richmond VA 23230
Meet at corner of West Broad Street and Forest Avenue in front of the Altria sign. Parking available in shopping center on Forest Ave across the street.
Message:
On April 26 we will be protesting Philip Morris' (owned by Altria) deadly animal experiments for tobacco products for World Week for Animals in Labs. Last year, experimenters, on behalf of Philip Morris, stuffed thousands of rats into tiny canisters and pumped tobacco smoke directly into their noses for six hours a day for 90 consecutive days before killing and dissecting the rats, and in another experiment, hundreds of mice and rats were forced to eat food laced with tobacco for three months, subsequently developing hair loss, swollen genitals, and skin ulcers before being killed. These barbaric experiments do not help to make smoking any safer or shed light on what we already know: that smoking is harmful for both non-human animals and humans. Please come out and speak up for the animals for just an hour!

CAPE TOWN CITY
Saturday, April 20
10:00 am - 11:30 am
Meet outside Baxter Theatre, Main Road Rondebosch
Message:
The last week of April sees World Week for Animals in Laboratories. Cosmetic testing on animals is inhumane, unnecessary and ineffective. Research using animals kills people, tortures animals and is costly. Animals are used in tobacco, alcohol and drug abuse studies, the manufacture of commercial products - such as household cleaners, the pharmaceutical industry, agriculture, toxicological studies, education and in many other ways. Animals are scalded, burnt, drowned, electrocuted, poisoned and killed, all in the name of science and often without the benefit of anaesthesia or analgesics. They don't smoke, drink, overeat, make war, yet they suffer for our failings and as results are not directly applicable to humans, it is even worse. Every time we brush our teeth, wash the car, do laundry, shower or any one of a myriad day to day things, it has been at terrible cost of many millions of animals every year. Even so, medicine kills tens of thousands of people annually, despite the promises of animal testing. Even though thousands of animals will have been poisoned to death to establish a so called lethal dose of, say floor cleaner, doesn't make it any less dangerous! JOIN US and let your voice be heard for the unseen suffering!
