Campaigns 7 - 0!!! New bow hunting ordinance in Yonkers! The City of Yonkers has voted in a new ordinance against bow hunting; the
vote was 7 - 0 in favor of the ordinance! The Yonkers City council enacted Dee Barbato's original resolution that
all bow and arrows be sheathed at all times in the City of Yonkers, with the
exception of use at a legal firing range. Liam McLaughlin, President of the Yonkers City Council, claimed the
ordinance in Greenburgh pertaining to hunting is basically illegal and
easily challengeable; we will be looking into this further. In any case: the Yonkers resolution began as one slated to 'die in
committee,' with tons of opposition from local police/firemen. Liam
Mclaughlin acknowledged receiving many calls and emails urging Yonkers to
not let it die in committee, and, of course, to pass a resolution related to
bow hunting. We will be posting coverage by The Journal News tomorrow; A BIG ROUND OF
APPLAUSE AND THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO WROTE AND CALLED REGARDING THIS ISSUE!!
Though Yonkers does not have the more profound hunting issues as upstate
and more rural areas, this was never a 'lock' - no municipality ever is, and
Yonkers is a city like no other. Your outreach made an enormous difference! More on this tomorrow. If you get a moment, please thank the Yonkers City Council and especially
Dee Barbato:
