Out to Make you or Break you
Sadly, and in marked contrast to the national media in Wales, which
have never once belittled me - the press around Scotland could be
varied. The Scottish Daily Express; the Press & Journal and the
Glasgow Herald could be trusted for giving unbiased accounts. But due
to some 'smart Alecs' the same topic in The Scotsman; The Scottish Sun
and Aberdeen's Evening paper would occasionally appear slanted indeed.
And, whereas 'Scotland on Sunday' was to portray my efforts for the
animal kingdom in most glowing terms, Scotland's Sunday Post would
later give centre page coverage to my cause - with the focus upon the
blessing of a cow, the caption ready: Holy Cow!

journalistic slants offended comrades, they stopped bothering me. I'd
had tough training for the church. St. Paul said that: we are
portrayed as fools in this world for the cause of Christ! And an
evangelical brother remarked: never be ashamed to be called a crank,
for it is the most essential part of any engine!
Early
evangelical zeal had once led me as a student to spout in the
notorious Glasgow Gorbals, as well as London's Hyde Park Comer.
Consequently, over 35 years later, I felt no need to concern myself
with criticism from cowards afraid to be different from the crowd.
