A Most Wonderful Wife!
The photos in this News Letter were, again, taken by Doreen, who
also took an active role in the services.. Indeed, I thank God for
such a faithful helpmeet who has stood by me, through thick and thin,
down the many years we’ve shared together. Not only has she been a
wonderful wife, but also an active clergy wife! Yes, a breed who do
more than would any average curate, by working behind the scenes. And
whereas a new breed of female curates basque in the attention their
new and novel positions give them, many a clergy wife receives little
if any adulation keeping the daily chores and responsibilities of many
a rectory, vicarage or parsonage runninfg smoothly
Indeed, I
may be a little old fashioned, - and you certainly do not have to
agree with me! -but I would choose for virtue any day the traditional
clergy wife to that of a ‘dolly bird’; curate; or –what is more
common, and less appealing these days – a female dressed as close to a
man as she can get, complete with shortened hair, a deep voice and an
extra broad clerical collar. With every rightly orientated male
worshipper I would say: “give us the ‘Dolly Bird’ image any day!
