[Ed. Note: Unfortunately, it is commonplace for roosters seized in cockfighting operations to be euthanized. Few people know that it IS possible to rehabilitate fighting roosters; read Rooster Rehab.]

The hens seized in this cockfighting raid were being held at the Atlantic County SPCA inSomers Point, NJ. Sadly, the roosters were immediately euthanized. The good news is that all of the hens and their chicks have been placed in good homes, according to Atlantic County SPCA president Nancy Beall.

The property owner was arrested. New Jersey statutes prohibit “the fighting or baiting of a living animal or creature,” and a violation can result in a fine of between $3,000 and $5,000.
