Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (VSPCA-India)
March 2009
Employees and volunteers from VSPCA discovered that cows and calves at a slaughterhouse not far from the VSPCA sanctuary needed to be immediately rescued.
The animals at this slaughterhouse were brought in and left for days without food or water prior to slaughter: “They are all very young but made to suffer to meet death by starving them in order to make them very weak to be slaughtered easily.” And the animals were being killed with saws.
Most of the cattle were suffering from malnutrition, dehydration and suffocation. It is also a clear case of violating the transport act wherein unknown numbers of animals are crammed into vehicles on their way to the slaughterhouse.
These slaughterhouses are illegal in most of India, so by working with authorities, VSPCA was able to go in and rescue these cows.
The entire rescue effort by VSPCA employees and volunteers took almost 12 hours, with people working all night, without any sleep.
Cows and calves on the grounds of the slaughterhouse...no food or
water for days
Rescuing downers, animals too weak to even stand
A short victory celebration when the cows are safe at the sanctuary
Finally, food and water
An abundance of nourishment... for the rest of their lives
VSPCA needs your help to continue their struggle to overcome these atrocities against the most defenseless animals. They look forward with urgency in providing immediate special feed and medicines to get these animals well. Their revival is dependent on how fast and how much quality feed and supplements and medical treatment are provided.
Send donations to VSPCA for all the animals they rescue and nurture for the rest of their lives. Or send donations to Help Animals India.
