Lisa was invited to Croatia to give the workshop at a meeting sponsored by Indeficienter, a Croatian nonprofit that promotes animal-assisted interventions and works to reduce animal abuse.

Our AniCare Program Director, Lisa Lunghofer, presented a three-hour workshop at the Animal Assisted Intervention International conference in Denver on September 20.

In the first part of the session, she discussed what we know about the relationship between animal abuse and violence in the home, why the link is important, and what can be done to address it.

The second part of the session focused on approaches to evaluation and treatment of people who have abused animals, including discussion of AniCare, CAT (a diversion program for children) and Lifetime Bonds, an animal-assisted intervention for youth who are at risk for abusing animals and engaging in other antisocial behavior.

The workshop was attended by about 20 people from countries around the world, including Argentina, Japan, Croatia, Germany, Belgium and New Zealand.
