WIN! Freed From Research - Over 100 Chimps At New Iberia Center
DEC 18, 2012 - New Iberia Primate Center is among labs Kinship Circle
targeted for use of chimpanzees as disease models to generate data for
prevention, vaccines or drugs related to humans. Some 100 chimps now
classified as ineligible for research, on the heels of a landmark study that
deemed chimp experiments unwarranted in most cases, will retire to Chimp
Haven Sanctuary in Keithville, LA. Months earlier, only 10 were slated for
sanctuary…
WIN! Israel Passes First Nationwide Ban On Cruel Horse-Drawn Carts
NOV 29, 2012 - Kinship Circle followed CHAI’s (Concern For Helping Animals
In Israel) lead to rally support for a ban on horse-drawn carts. Now an
entire nation will clear its streets of the merciless practice. If Israel’s
ban on horse-drawn carts is enforced, people will no longer see battered
horses and donkeys who suffer from fatigue, dehydration, chronic hoof
problems and lameness as they lug carts laden with furniture, produce,
supplies…
WIN! Ann Taylor Sheds Exotic Skins From Already Fur-Free Lines
NOV 6, 2012 - Kinship Circle creates alerts targeting outlets with fur, skin
or wool on their shelves. Upscale retailer Ann Taylor, a one-time target
that deleted fur goods in 2006, makes extraordinary strides in cruelty-free
couture with the removal of exotic skins as well. Alligators and crocodiles
die horribly, knifed in the neck or bashed with metal bats. Live snakes have
been observed nailed to trees so their skin can be ripped from their bodies…
WIN! In Triumph For Wild Animals, Roadless Rule Is Upheld
OCT 8, 2012 - A collective voice of animal and environmental groups has paid
off! Kinship Circle registered firm opposition to efforts to overturn
President Clinton’s Roadless Area Conservation Rule. The Supreme Court
decided to NOT hear an appeal to a prior 10th Circuit Court ruling that
upheld the Roadless Rule. This is a big win for wild animals, especially
threatened or endangered animals who inhabit 58.5 million acres of U.S.
woodlands without roads…
UPDATE: Israel Vetoes Mazor Farm Primate Export For Research
JUL 20, 2012 - Israel nixed consent for Mazor Farm to ship monkeys to a
Texas laboratory for experimentation. At least 40 monkeys were spared from
brutal experiments when Mazor lost its last overseas client. The commercial
breeder sells primates in Israel and abroad and has long been targeted by
activists, including Kinship Circle…
WIN! Monkeys Gain Salvation When Experimenter Loses Permit
JUL 5, 2012 - Wide-eyed and cute, they’re annually stolen from Colombia’s
Amazon jungle and sold to malaria researchers. But Dr. Manuel Elkin
Patarroyo just lost permits to snatch some 4,000 night monkeys for his
jungle lab, FIDIC. Night monkeys are snared in trees rigged with nets. The
tiny creatures are shoved into mesh sacks and scream as boats take them from
native forests to dingy metal cages. A Colombian court said "no more" to
Patarroyo…
WIN! Animal Labs Gone From Wisconsin Medical College, For Now
JUN 5, 2012 - Medical College of Wisconsin’s 2012-2013 physiology curriculum
will contain no live animals! Kinship Circle, together with key organization
PCRM and others, logged lots of objections to MCW animal labs. In one drill,
students observed pulse fluctuations in a dog connected to a computer. They
exposed the dog’s heart with scalpels and bone saws, injected chemicals, and
shocked the heart with electrical paddles…
UPDATE: Vick Dogfight Bust 5 Years Later, More Victims Saved?
APR 30, 2012 - Five years ago this spring, a label emerged from the edge of
horror: Vick Dogs. They were seized from Michael Vick’s dogfight enterprise,
Bad Newz Kennels, where the NFL quarterback helped electrocute, drown and
hang dogs who underperformed. Pre-Vick, nearly all fight victims were
killed. A landmark court decision sent Vick Dogs to no-kill rescue. On the
anniversary of history’s most infamous dogfight bust, these dogs reflect the
worst in human greed and cruelty. They also signify a doorway to hope for
more like them.…
UPDATE: Puppy Mill Capital, USA - 1 Year Anniversary Of New Law
APR 29, 2012 - Voters passed Prop B, Puppy Mill Cruelty Prevention Act, to
crack down on Missouri dog factories. It was repealed against their will,
then rewritten. The softer law has been in effect 1 year. Do dogs suffer as
much? Missouri supplies 40% of all pups sold in the USA, from an estimated
3,000 mills…
UPDATE: Biology Instructors Say Yes To Virtual Dissection
MAR 29, 2012 - The National Association of Biology Teachers and virual-lab
leader Froguts have teamed up, a move that steps up use of humane classroom
tools across the U.S. The promising alliance is good news for animals and
students. Dead animals often come from shelters that gas animals, like the
cats dissected in some 13 Miami-Dade high schools whom Kinship Circle
highlighted in its original alert. In an earlier leap forward, the National
Science Teachers Association revised its stance on dissection to advocate
humane options…
WIN! Class B Dealers Won’t Profit From Cats Sold To Research
FEB 8, 2012 - National Institutes of Health, the main funding arm of U.S.
biomedical research, plans to "transition from use of Class B cats." As of
October 2012, a ban on cats from random source dealers (B dealers) takes
effects. Each year animals in shelters are purchased by dealers and sold for
use in excruciating procedures. Class B dealers also amass dogs and cats
from free-to-good home ads or employ bunchers to steal them from yards and
cars…
WIN! Final Adios To Bioculture Monkey Farm-For-Research
JAN 18, 2012 - In an ultimate adios to Bioculture’s monkey breeding farm, a
Puerto Rico Supreme Court upheld prior rulings and agreed that Bioculture
cannot legally operate in Guayama. The high court decision marks a final
blow for Bioculture’s plan to capture more than 4,000 monkeys and sell their
offspring for painful experiments at labs abroad such as Shin Nippon
Biomedical, Charles River, Pfizer, Covance…
WIN! A Michigan County Ends Pound Seizure, The Ultimate Betrayal
JAN, 2012 - Mecosta County Animal Shelter in Michigan will no longer hand
over dogs to Class B "random source" dealers, notorious for selling one-time
companions to research labs. Kinship Circle"s original alert asked Mesta
County Commissioners to ban the practice of selling pound dogs and cats to
dealers for abbreviated lives of misery as experiment subjects…
