March 2014
The New Animalism Lecture & Workshop will explore nonhuman personhood, ancient origins of animal abuse, animal abuse as a root cause of human misery, and precisely how we all can strike at the roots of animal abuse. We’ll debunk false beliefs that maintain civilization’s overarching animal-abuse policy.
Let’s start spring by “shining sunlight on” a root cause of animal abuse!
Humanism – the ideology holding human beings Earth’s master species, only
humans inherently worthy of life and fulfillment, and all in nature existing
for humans to use or dispense with – does immeasurable harm to humans, other
animals, and the living world. The suffering that results is
incalculable – in humans as well as the other animals.
To establish equal autonomy, ecology, and dignity rights of all animals, we
must supplant humanism with the new animalism. Policy serving only
human beings does not suffice: We must make policy comport with the common
good of all animals. Anticruelty laws are policy dregs in light of the
animals’ needs.
I hope you will take part in the first-ever New Animalism Lecture & Workshop
– at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 6th, at 320 Keswick Avenue, Glenside, PA
19038, home of Responsible Policies for Animals, Elizabeth Holt, and me. Refreshments provided by RPA.

To sign up for the New Animalism Lecture & Workshop, reply to this email,
email later, or ring 215-886-RPA1. If “yes but not April 6th,” let me
know and we’ll do it again. If you are not in reasonable distance but
know someone else who might join us, pass along the information.
The New Animalism could not be timelier! As explained in the current issue
of Scientific American, good problem-solving ideas often blind people to
better ones. Animal advocacy desperately needs a better idea – all is
steadily worsening for the animals despite centuries of the animal-welfare
regime and decades of the first wave of the “animal rights movement.” I look
forward to seeing you April 6th!
Many thanks to RPA’s members for making this event possible as well as the
many other projects underway – more to be announced next week!
