November 2016

When people, including and especially politicians, come to understand that vivisection is a waste of their tax dollars, to the tune of billions of dollars a year, they will refuse to support it. Big Pharma will fight us all the way, but once the bright light of truth shines on a lie, we can prevail.

Where We Were and Where We Are Now

When you work tirelessly and give your all to the cause of ending vivisection, it may seem that progress moves at a snail's pace. But the truth is we have made gains in the past several years.

When SUPPRESS, Last Chance for Animals and Hans Ruesch first brought to the attention of A-V and animal rights groups, in the early 1980s, that the key to ending vivisection was letting the public know that vivisection is a fraud and harms humans as well as animals, many animal rights groups were afraid to stand up to "scientists" in white lab coats. They preferred to play it safe and attack vivisection with the centuries' old, ineffective cruelty argument, which, along with philosophical and moral arguments, had been a complete failure.

Now almost every A-and animal rights group will state that animal experimentation does not work, even though many of them still see fit to say they are pushing for "alternatives." We say alternatives to what--to something that doesn't work? But there has definitely been progress and for that we are grateful to everyone who works so hard to educate the public about the scientific argument against vivisection.

Yes, vivisection is horribly cruel, and people need to know that, but at the same time, they must be made aware of how damaging it is to human health and the environment. When people, including and especially politicians, come to understand that vivisection is a waste of their tax dollars, to the tune of billions of dollars a year, they will refuse to support it. Big Pharma will fight us all the way, but once the bright light of truth shines on a lie, we can prevail.

Gains in 2016

Many victories occurred this year that we can all be proud of. Different groups led different campaigns, but it took all of us, people from around the world, calling, emailing, protesting and supporting with our dollars, to accomplish these important gains:

  • In St. Louis, Washington University stopped using cats for intubation training.
  • The heinous Eunice Shriver Infant Primate Lab in Poolesville, Maryland, was closed after decades of nightmarish and fraudulent torture of baby monkeys and their mothers.
  • New York State passed a law that says dogs and cats that have been used for experiments in publically funded institutions must be given to rescues and shelters for adoption.
  • After Chris De Rose and Jack Carone had a meeting with the Korean Consul in Los Angeles, he agreed to do everything in his power to end the slaughter of dogs for human consumption in his country.
  • Under new mayor, Chiara Appendino, Turin, Italy, will become Italy's first city to promote vegan and vegetarian diets for the good of the environment, the sake of human health and for the welfare of animals.
  • The University of Tennessee became the last medical school in the US and Canada to require the use of animals in their medical training.
  • Australia voted to ban sales of cosmetics tested on animals.
  • The notorious Santa Cruz Biotechnology was fined a record $3.5 million and forced to close.
  • Taiwan banned animal testing for cosmetics.
  • The Netherlands announced plans to phase out all animal testing by 2025.

In addition PRISM:

  • educated thousands of participants at the Komen walks and runs
  • the documentary VAXXED educated the public regarding the damage caused by vaccines, an integral part of the vivisection industry
  • Britt was given the opportunity to speak at the Cancer Control Society Convention on why animal testing is irrelevant to any arguments regarding cancer research
  • PRISM and Progress for Science had demos at Maria and Bobby Shriver's houses to encourage them to close their mother's vivisection lab at the University of Wisconsin
  • we had a huge demo in Seattle to expose what is going on in the Eunice Shriver Infant Primate Lab at the UW
  • Progress for Science led demos at the house of UCLA vivisector Edyth London to expose her crimes
  • Lush Cosmetics gave us a grant to help us in our efforts to close the Eunice Shriver Lab and work with the Backbone Campaign on demos in Seattle and, next year, in Los Angeles.

We can all be proud of what we have accomplished this year. Please help PRISM continue its educational efforts and outreach to the public and to celebrities who are the pied pipers for Big Pharma and the vivisection industry. We can only do as much as you, our supporters make it possible for us to do. If ending vivisection is important to you, please give generously.
