Sad Fate of Male Chicks in Egg Hatcheries

(03:40) The lives of male chicks are considered worthless by the egg industry. A Mercy for Animals undercover investigator worked for two weeks at Hy-Line Hatchery in Iowa, the world's largest hatchery for egg-laying breed chicks.
Male chicks are worthless to the egg industry because they do not lay eggs and will not grow large or fast enough to be raised profitably for meat. Most are often ground up alive...standard industry practice. At some hatcheries, chicks are dumped, layer upon layer, into garbage bags where they slowly suffocate. Over 150,000 male chicks meet their deaths in the grinder each day at this facility. The females who survive the hatchery face brutality, torture and death as laying hens.
