INFORMATION
Billie was super excited when she found out she could adopt a dog. What
she didn't realise was how that little pup, with her big brown eyes, would
completely change her life. Now she was best friends with an animal, how
could she possibly eat other animals? Billie didn't know if it would even be
possible to live without eating animals but she was determined to find a
way.
She makes friends, loses friends and even brings her whole school into
the plan with a sneaky movie and vegan hot dog night to raise money for an
animal shelter. In the end she realises that one person really can make a
difference as long as they stand up for what they believe in. This book is
perfect for all of the young freedom fighters out there and was written with
them in mind so that they know they are not alone on their quest.
REVIEW
This story is spoken from the mouth of a wise child, not holding back her
true feelings. You will discover humor, wisdom and, possibly, you may think
twice.
~ Lori Armstrong
Ruth Greenwood is an incredible author who very clearly recreates the
perspective of a child with all the digressions and suspense to show her
train of thought and the excitement Billie has to surprise us all with what
happens next in the story, and portrays the kindness, compassion and
understanding that are children have deeply rooted inside of them! She also
reinforces the message that we should always tell our children the truth
about animal agriculture and also what a positive effect it has on adults
too when they let their children make their own decisions instead of
constantly lying and making their decisions for them. I thoroughly enjoyed
this book and loved the visual storytelling through the illustrations too! I
can't wait to see what Ruth creates next. From one vegan teacher to another,
stay awesome!

I really enjoyed reading this book, which has been carefully written with a
young audience in mind. As a vegan adult I can relate to the main character,
her realisations throughout and changed relationships with those around her.
I believe that this book could very well be the text that a lot of confused
children and young people turn to for guidance and support when making the
brave and valuable transition from meat eater to vegan; especially if they
don't have support in their lives. It's a genuinely good story with comedic
moments and advice woven throughout. Fantastic!

I absolutely loved this book, written with kindness, compassion and
fairness. I warmed to the characters instantly and turned every page with
constant interest and a massive desire to know where Billie's journey would
take her, and her friends and family. All the situations and characters felt
'real'... I have met people like every one of them (including the gorgeous
Lola) and their reactions, conversations and actions were beautifully
crafted. Thank-you Ruth, for this important book which is going to change
lives all over the world, in a positive fun way. I hope there are more to
come!

This is a brilliant book that allows children to identify similar feelings.
I highly recommend this book for PSHCE in schools and to generate discussion
around vegetarians and vegans. A great eye opener for everyone that reads
it.

Beautifully written and illustrated book. Loved all the characters and what
a fantastic way to start with Lola and how she entered Billie's life. Love
the friendship triangle between Billie, Naomi and Tina...and the emotional
confession from Tina's dad at the end of the story.
