Don't Quit: Who is the Author?

In Reference to the Poem: DON’T QUIT
Hello good people and not so good people.
My name is Bennie Lowry I welcome any one who has or can direct me to absolute proof of who wrote the Don't Quit Poem.
Now please understand i am being as honest I I can will I share the following with you.
I was born in 1954, in the 6th. grade (at the age of 12) I authored a poem that is 75% of the exact poem Gerald Haughey claims to have penned. I have also read others which have changed only two or three words and/or have added a verse or two. Below is My Poem copied from my original hand written piece that I still have in my possession. I am sure there are test that can prove my work is dated to the mid 50s.Since it is hand written in pencil it should not be hard to date this.
So we can at least have proof it dates to the 50s. Again I just started looking into this by chance I saw it on the internet. Again if there is concrete proof to predate the 1950s then I would greatly appreciate some one contacting me.
Below is my work as I am not afraid of some one coping it since I still have my original.
When things go wrong as they sometimes will
When the road you're trudging seems all up hill,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must - but don't you quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As everyone of us sometimes learn,
And many a failure turns about
When he might have won had he stuck it out,
Don't give up though the pace seems slow-
You might succeed with another blow
Often the goal is nearer than
It seems to a faint and faltering man,
Often the struggler has given up
When he might have captured the victors cup,
And he learned too late, when the night slipped down
How close he was to the golden crown.
Thank you, I hope I can meet some friends of poetry and fellow Christians.
