In Reference to: Snake Myths
My older brother, now 83, witnessed a large cottonmouth snake in Arkansas, hold her mouth open, and the babies darted in one by one, till every baby was safely inside. She then hid under a large rock, which they used tools to pry up. Upon killing the mother, they removed 18 live babies from her stomach.
The most important detail here is, the babies went in rapidly, of their own volition, showing this to be a defensive, inherited, genetic position, that may only involve this particular species.
The year of occurrence was in the early 1940's. No myther, mythman, regards paublus----he was laughed at by his college professor when explaining this to him in 1950.
