Herbruck’s website says, "We give laying hens the love and respect they deserve through personal, attentive care. From pullets to hens nearing retirement age, proper handling is our first priority."

 When avian influenza struck the 'ranch,' without a plan to end the lives of their birds in a less cruel way, they resorted to Ventilation Shutdown VSD, sealing up buildings, pumping in heat, and waiting for the birds inside to slowly suffocate and die. The 'ranch' received $89.3 million in tax-payer subsidized bailouts, and then 400 of their workers lost their jobs.

Are these really the types of businesses our communities should be forced to rely on for job creation and food production?

Or should we reinvest our public funds and support increasing access to convenient, affordable, high-fiber, and high-protein animal-free meals instead?
