A vegetarian since 1978, and a vegan since 1993, Scott has been an animal rights activist since the early 1980s. He raised two vegan (and very happy, healthy, smart, and kind) kids into adulthood.

Scott has worked with the Humane Society of the United States on Michigan and national legislative campaigns and has served as a board member of the Michigan Federation of Humane Societies and Animal Advocates (and two-time president), the Michigan Animal Rights Network, and the Ingham County Humane Society. In 2001, he was chosen the “Humanitarian of the Year,” and in 2011, he was honored as the “Peacemaker of the Year.” In 2023, Scott represented JewishVeg as part of a panel discussing veganism and faith, at the Parliament of Worlds Religions in Chicago.

Scott owns and has operated, EVERYbody Reads, a vegan-centric and inclusive independent bookstore in Lansing since 2006.
