The Canadian Food Inspection Agency expanded its recall Sunday on a number of popular cream-cheese products over fears of salmonella contamination.

The nationwide recall affects original cream cheese made by Western Creamery, a division of Liberte Natural foods.

Consumers were being warned not to eat plain cream cheese, nachos with dip, nachos dip and nachos with salsa party tray. All the nacho products may contain some of the affected cream cheese.

The cheeses were sold at Loblaws, Metro, Sobeys, Real Canadian Superstore, Fortinos, Zehrs and a number of independent grocery stores across the country.

The affected products were sold between Nov. 25 to Dec. 4.

Foods contaminated with salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but, when eaten, can cause fever, headaches, upset stomach, vomiting and diarrhea. Those with weak immune systems, the elderly and young children are the most susceptible to getting sick.
