Some kids, now adults, then go off to college where they are fed more protein lies, while other kids enter the army or work force and have their own children and pass on what was taught to them by their own parents, and the cycle continues for generation after generation of kids who have heart disease by age 8, and unhealthy and obese bodies long before their childhood ends.

"The foods that are emphasized (in the protein diet) are the very foods that the Heart Association has condemned as causing heart disease..." - John McDougall

The American obsession with protein begins before Kindergarten when ignorant parents continuously pound the protein myth into a tiny child's brain with idiotic comments such as, "Finish the liver on your plate. Kids are starving in Africa."

As toddlers, do we actually believe that anybody would let a child starve? Then we go off to school, and the substitute mommy reinforces the protein myth by showing real photos of real children in warring African nations, who have no food to eat, and the children go home to finish every morsel of liver, spleen, pancreas, and flesh on their plates. Protein, protein, protein. That is what a growing child hears in every health and nutrition class until senior year in high school. "Protein is good for you." Everybody "knows" that.

"You've got to eat good protein, so drink your milk."

Visit any hospital in America and ask: "How many patients do occupy beds here because of a protein deficiency?"

The answer you will get is, "Zero."

Hospitals are filled with Americans who have eaten too much dietary animal protein. It is nearly impossible to live in America and not satisfy your protein needs.

"The average man in the US eats 175% more protein than the recommended daily allowance and the average woman eats 144% more." - Surgeon General's Report on Nutrition and Health, 1988

"Osteoporosis is caused by a number of things, one of the most important being too much dietary protein." - Science 1986;233(4763)

"Countries with the highest rates of osteoporosis, such as the United States, England, and Sweden, consume the most milk. China and Japan, where people eat much less protein and dairy food, have low rates of osteoporosis." - Nutrition Action Healthletter, June, 1993

"Dietary protein increases production of acid in the blood which can be neutralized by calcium mobilized from the skeleton." - American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 1995; 61 (4)

"Even when eating 1,400 mg of calcium daily, one can lose up to 4% of his or her bone mass each year while consuming a high-protein diet." - American Journal of Clinical Nutrition 1979;32(4)

"Increasing one's protein intake by 100% may cause calcium loss to double." - Journal of Nutrition, 1981; 111 (3)

Animal food-groups were directly correlated to mortality from coronary heart disease, defined as sudden coronary death or fatal myocardial infarction and vegetable food-groups (except potatoes) as well as fish and alcohol were inversely correlated with CHD mortality. Univariate analysis showed significant positive correlation coefficients for butter (R = 0.887), meat (R = 0.645), pastries (R = 0.752), and milk (R = 0.600) consumption, and significant negative correlation coefficients for legumes (R = -0.822), oils (R = -0.571), and alcohol (R = -0.609) consumption. Combined vegetable foods (excluding alcohol) were inversely correlated (R = -0.519), whereas combined animal foods (excluding fish) were directly correlated (R = 0.798) with coronary heart disease death rates. - European Journal of Epidemiology, 1999 Jul, 15:6, 507-15
