"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful. At the same
time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel
called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.
“The human appetite for animal flesh is a driving force behind virtually every major category of environmental damage now threatening the human future – deforestation, erosion, fresh water scarcity, air and water pollution, climate change, biodiversity loss, social justice, the destabilization of communities and the spread of disease.”
This quotation from the editors of World Watch, July/August 2004, is even more accurate about the state of the world today, two years later. Nearly every day we hear about floods, mud slides, record-breaking heat, etc.
What I think makes these conditions even worse is the fact that the population of the world is increasing, putting more and more of the planet’s humans and other animals at risk. Yet the majority of humans are reluctant to listen, let alone make the simple, necessary changes that would benefit themselves and their loved ones. In other words, they are their own worst enemies.
The following scriptures apply to the state of humanity today, just as they did thousands of years ago:
Galatians 6:7-8
7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man
sows, that he will also reap.
~ New King James Version
Galatians 5:22-24
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is
no law.
~ New American Standard Bible
Micah 6:8
8 He has told you, O man, what is good;
And what does the LORD require of you
But to do justice, to love kindness,
And to walk humbly with your God?
~ New American Standard Bible
Isaiah 59:15
15 Yes, truth is lacking;
And he who turns aside from evil makes himself a prey.
~ New American Standard Bible
Romans 1:20
20 For since the creation of the world His invisible
attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen,
being understood through what has been made, so that they are without
excuse.
~ New American Standard Bible
They are indeed “without excuse” and will have no one to blame but themselves.
