In yesterday’s Blog I quoted from the New Testament – Matthew 10,
starting with verse 34:
34 "Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not
come to bring peace, but a sword.
35 "For I came to set a man against his father, and a daughter
against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law;
36 and a man's enemies will be the members of his household.
~ New American Standard Bible
So many people, “Christians” included, talk about how important it is
to love people; God commands that we love people. True! Then why do
hard-hearted “Christians” reject and scapegoat so many of those –
including fellow Christians and family members – who are concerned about
the wholesale, unnecessary cruelty that farmed animals are caused to
suffer?
Why is it that the suffering of billions of animals is so invisible
to these church people? What is it that they don’t understand about
Micah 6:8 of the Hebrew Bible and Galatians 5: 22-23 of the New
Testament?
Micah 6:8
8. He has told you, O man, what is good;
And what does the LORD require of you
But to do justice, to love kindness,
And to walk humbly with your God?
Galatians 5:22-23
22. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience,
kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23. gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
~ New American Standard Bible
Are such “Christians” being loving, kind, and good when they reject
the truth about the holocaust of billions of God’s creatures? Do they
really care about justice? Are they prompted by God’s Spirit when they
reject the messengers as well as the message?
Isaiah 59:15
15. Yes, truth is lacking;
And he who turns aside from evil makes himself a prey.
~ New American Standard Bible
As I’ve written before, I look forward to the day when other animals
are granted legal rights. Then the lies and loopholes of “welfare” for
other animals will stop at long last; and the Church will no longer be
able to use its indifference to the suffering of other animals, and
their warped interpretation of the Bible, as excuses to promote and
condone the heartless exploitation of God’s other creatures.
