Writing yesterday’s Blog (“Capitol Crimes”) about political
corruption brought to mind a Bible passage in which Jesus says that
“…from everyone who has been given much shall much be required; and to
whom they entrusted much, of him [or her] they will ask all the more.”
(Luke 12:48)
It seems to me that this statement can be applied to those who occupy
positions of leadership and oversight, such as government officials. In
effect, Jesus says that those who are “given much” bear a heavier burden
of responsibility; and the more that is entrusted to them, the more
liable they become.
Those who occupy positions of public trust sooner or later reveal
their true character. Of course, there are always many who support these
hard-hearted leaders; after all, to not do so would be like condemning
themselves; they feel justified by those whom they support. You know the
old saying – Birds of a feather flock together.
The hypocrisy of the hard of heart, no matter what façade they hide
behind, becomes obvious to those who “have eyes to see” and “ears to
hear.”
In ancient times, the Lord through His prophet Jeremiah declared:
Jeremiah 5:21
21 “Hear this, O foolish and senseless people,
Who have eyes, but see not;
Who have ears, but hear not.”
~ New American Standard Bible
Corrupt leaders have a sense of responsibility, all right – they feel
that they have a responsibility to grab as much power and wealth as
possible for themselves and their cronies! And we need to keep our eyes
and ears opened to be aware of what is really happening.
