A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from All-Creatures.org

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

Nanotechnology – 21 November 2006
By Mary T. Hoffman

We’re hearing more and more about nanotechnology and the use of nanomedicines to zero in on diseases at the cellular level. It is thought that fewer side effects would result from this application of nanotechnology to cure cancer, as an example.

This is certainly a fascinating field, but I would hope that nanomedical physicians would not make the same mistake as today’s mainstream physicians – abandoning basic healthful vegan living as the first line of defense against preventable illnesses. After all, Hippocrates – the father of medicine – is credited with having said, “Let food be your medicine.” And that was thousands of years ago!

Isn’t it strange for people to continue eating the body parts and secretions of suffering fellow creatures at the same time that we are rapidly advancing in scientific knowledge? There is a disconnect here of enormous proportions!

I keep hoping that human arrogance will one day allow the truth to shine through: that the highest ideals to aspire to are love and compassion for all of God’s creation; and that without them, all the worldly knowledge and honors are as nothing.
