A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from All-Creatures.org

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

Last Day of November – 30 November 2006

The unusual weather here inspired me to dash these off this morning:

Last Day of November
By Mary T. Hoffman
(Written 30 November 2006)

The last day of November
Yet not a flake of white.
Has there been another
With no snow in sight?

Tomorrow is December
But the weather isn’t wintry;
The forecast’s rain and thunder
And just a little chilly.

Yet pretty lights are all aglow
In Christmas anticipation;
Wherever you look, wherever you go,
There are holiday decorations.

But sure to come are cold and ice,
And when I’m shoveling snow,
I’ll think it’s anything but nice
Having icy winds blow.

Last Day of November
(Version 2)
By Mary T. Hoffman
(Written 30 November 2006)

It’s the last day of November,
Yet no snow in sight;
Tomorrow is December –
Where is winter’s bite?

I look out at dawn
And see November brown;
No snowman on the lawn
No snowflakes coming down.

Christmas time draws near
And lights are all aglow;
Time of Holiday cheer
But still no show of snow.
