A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from All-Creatures.org

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

Record-Breaking Warmth in January – 6 January 2007
By Mary T. Hoffman

We just got back from a three mile walk on the warmest 6th of January on record in our area. The temperature was 70 degrees F. in the shade, and I wore shorts.

In this unseasonably warm weather, it seemed almost strange to see all the Christmas decorations on and around the houses that we passed. Here, we associate the holidays of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s with cold weather and snow.

In January 2006, by this date, a total of twenty inches of snow had already fallen, and that was only half of what is the normal expected amount here. We have had no snow yet this winter.

Tonight a mild cold front is expected to cause a drop in temperature so that the high for tomorrow, according to the TV weather forecast, will be around 49 degrees F. – still way above normal for this time of year in our area.
