Presidents Day – 19 February 2007

It’s Presidents Day – a beautiful, bright sunny day with snow covering the ground and the temperature hovering around 5 degrees F.

Here schools are closed for winter recess this week. We used to have February 12th and 22nd off for Lincoln’s and Washington’s birthdays.

Since I’m writing about Presidents Day, I should mention that Presidential Dollar coins, beginning with Presidents George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison, will be introduced into circulation this year. They will be golden in color, with the Statue of Liberty on the reverse side, and with E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, the year of minting, and the mintmark spelled out on the edges.

"Joyful Curmudgeon"
An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.
