A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from All-Creatures.org

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

Fear Makes the World Go 'Round – 25 February 2007
By Mary T. Hoffman

For all the talk about love, it’s fear that “makes the world go 'round.” And for all the talk and “hand-wringing” about what to do about bullies in schools, at the same time, society encourages those very traits that produce bullies.

This is a worldwide problem that has always plagued humans. Bullies simply take advantage of the fear they sense around them and, if they “play their cards right” or are born into families of long-standing “bully-dom” that have dominated a society – such as “royalty,” they are hailed as “defenders of the faith” or idolized in one way or another.

Humans are pathetically “hard-wired” to crave security and they have been brainwashed into believing that they need to keep on reproducing, which puts them in greater need for security and increases their dependence on “leaders” who will “protect” them and their offspring. Obviously, none of this behavior is motivated by altruistic love – just the opposite: fear.

Here in the United States for the past six years the whole political agenda has been based on fear. The only thing this has accomplished is more “bully-dom” and wars.

And have you noticed how so many of these successful, professional bullies flaunt their hunting of other animals? Accompanied by their lackeys, world leaders – from female “defenders of the faith” to presidents and other politicians – have traditionally had fun destroying God’s creations – other sentient beings who cannot defend themselves.
