Today is Palm Sunday, also called “Passion Sunday.” This is the
beginning of Holy Week which ends with Resurrection Day (Easter
Sunday).
After His triumphal entry into Jerusalem, with people praising Him
and spreading palm branches on the road before Him, one of the first
things that Jesus did was to enter the temple “and cast out all those
who were buying and selling in the temple, and overturned the tables of
the moneychangers and the seats of those who were selling doves.” Jesus
told them that they were turning the “House of Prayer” into a “robbers’
den.” (Matthew 21:12-13, Mark 11:15-17, and Luke 19:45-46)
Then Jesus healed the blind and lame who came to Him in the temple.
And what was the reaction of the chief priests and the scribes to Jesus’
miracles? Were they happy to see the people’s suffering ended? No! They
“became indignant”!
Matthew 21:15-16
15 But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful
things that He had done, and the children who were crying out in the
temple and saying, "Hosanna to the Son of David," they became
indignant,
16 and said to Him, "Do You hear what these are saying?" And Jesus
said to them, "Yes; have you never read, 'Out of the mouth of infants
and nursing babes Thou hast prepared praise for Thyself'?"
~ New American Standard Bible
Reading about the children’s positive reaction to Jesus is another
reminder of how those who have not yet been indoctrinated into the “hard
of heart club” can be reached. But it’s never really too late to have
your spiritual eyes opened, as we have found out.
