A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from All-Creatures.org

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

Happy Independence Day – 4 July 2007
By Mary T. Hoffman

Today we celebrate the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on 4 July 1776. It’s our country’s 231st birthday!

At the same time that we are joyful and thank God for all the blessings of this great land, we should also keep in mind the words of one of our presidents, Abraham Lincoln. Here are a few of his words of wisdom:

“To sin by silence when they should protest makes cowards of men.”

“You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today.”

“America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.”
