A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from All-Creatures.org

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

Do You Support Animal Cruelty and Don’t Know It? – 6 July 2007
By Mary T. Hoffman

Many years ago, I thought I was helping animals if I supported such large environmental and conservation organizations such as The Nature Conservancy, the Audubon Society, the Sierra Club, Greenpeace, National Wildlife Federation, and the World Wildlife Fund.

As I learned more about animal issues, and my eyes began to open, I became aware that these groups were far from what I would consider “animal friendly.” I began to realize that this was aiding and abetting the betrayal of the very creatures that I wanted to help; so I stopped contributing to the “meanie greenies” (environmental groups that don’t really care about animals).

Paul Watson’s essay “Another Inconvenient Truth… what you’re eating is killing all of us” (The Animals Voice Magazine May/June 2007 issue) is a real eye-opener that everyone should read. Here is a quotation from this excellent article: “Why did Al Gore’s film ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ not mention the inconvenient truth that the slaughter industry creates more greenhouse gases than the automobile industry?”

Why indeed? Just another example of selling out? Isn’t it interesting that humans are harmed by their betrayal of the other animals? And to add insult to injury, they refuse to admit it.
